Facebook just went dead. I thought its my browser, but I tried both Firefox and Chrome and they all show the same thing, see the image above.

Come to think of it, even the likes of Facebook who has all the financial capacity and technical infrastructure to secure their data and systems, yet still vulnerable to a crash like this.

So that the lesson their folks, do not make Facebook the backup of everything you have, all the pictures you have is uploaded there and you have no other source or backup.

A lot of peoples memories are saved or uploaded to

Facebook that if the site goes down, everything is lost.  Images and videos of vacations, parties, graduations, office events, birthdays, travels, chat conversations.

Business are also built around it.  Many people have used Facebook pages to conduct their business even without a website.  What if Facebook goes down, a lot of people goes out of business, their communication with clients is built of their facebook pages and facebook groups.  Thus, a business website is still a necessary component of a business. Because in a website, you have full control over it (of course you have your hosting provider).  It may be cumbersome to create a business website but it is still important.

Everyone is using Facebook as if their own picture book or gallery, maybe we should start having our own personal backup or print our pictures and putt them in an album as what our parents did.  Nowadays, when you

go to the house of your friends, there are no more picture albums below the center table just like the time of our parents and grandparents.  Maybe we should still print a few of our pictures and put them inside albums.

Back to Facebook!

The good news is, in less than 30 minutes, Facebook was able to recover from the error and nervous users like me were so happy.

Their technical team did their job very well and were able to restore the social media website. Of course they always have backup.  Some say they have backup in every country or region of the world.  And that your pictures even if deleted on one location, still shows up somewhere because its not deleted on every site backups.

Of course, facebook has the biggest interest in ensuring continuity of their service, because of the billions of revenue to be lost from advertisers if they go down for a longer period of time. Facebook has now become a searchable website in itself, that even its facebook pages and groups now appear in Google searches.

So please Facebook technical team, don't make us nervous again, please ensure this social media thing called Facebook is always online.
